Food Not Bombs Rocks Trumbullplex to Feed Detroiters

Kicking off a new year, the Detroit Food Not Bombs chapter held a fundraising and canned food drive Sunday March 3, 2013 to raise money for their upcoming campaign to feed Detroiters free, healthy, hot Vegan and Vegetarian meals. Held at the Trumbullplex Detroit’s sexiest anarchist collective, six bucks got goers food and entertainment featuring: Five Pound Snap, Joe Kidd & Sheila BurkeRight for the NightThe Normandies, DJ Thrashleigh S D & DJ Dr. Doom, as well as Susan Sunshine-Earth Poet, Chelsea Larmon and Patience Young.

Beginning on St. Patrick’s day, Sunday March 17, the group will serve up free meals to all comers in Scripps Park and after, every first and third Sunday of each month.

From the mission statement on their Facebook page, “Food Not Bombs recovers and shares free vegan or vegetarian food with the public without restriction in over 1,000 cities around the world to protest war, poverty and the destruction of the environment. Each group is independent and invites everyone to participate in making decisions for their local chapter using the consensus process. Food Not Bombs is dedicated to taking nonviolent direct action to change society so no one is forced to stand in line to eat at a soup kitchen expressing a commitment to the fact that food is a right and not a privilege. With over a billion people going hungry each day how can we spend another dollar on war?”
