Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution in November 1989 put a peaceful end to 40 years of communist rule, giving way to a new era of democracy not seen since the country's founding in 1918. Soon after, people from almost every end of the globe it seemed began to flock to the country - mainly its capital, Prague. Some in search of jobs and new experience, some in search of the elusive "artist colony" the Western media so diligently hyped, many to try their hand at writing "the great American novel" and others just for the party.
