Judge allows Detroit bankruptcy: citizens protest ruling

Today, Judge Steven Rhodes announced in federal court that Detroit’s bankruptcy can move forward, making the Motor City the first of its size to go bust in U.S. history. In a surprise twist to his ruling, Rhodes also opened the door for cuts to city worker pensions as a possible way to balance the books, although he added he might not authorize ‘steep cuts’.
