I drove down to Saint Bernard, Louisiana from Detroit the third week of the spill. BP was just getting their Vessels of Opportunity program organized to employ local fisherman to assist in the cleanup. Captains and deckhands were lining up at BP claim centers to file for lost wages, as their fishing areas were closed because of the spill. The Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans was on the ground providing food assistance to families affected by the spill, while local 8th graders helped sort food at their facility into boxes headed for distribution centers. Even Slewfoot, street musician and 30-year resident of New Orleans, pitched in by donating proceeds from his CD recordings sold on the streets to the Red Cross to help the fishermen who lost their livelihood.
And the oil continues to spill into the Gulf…
When are they going to start really trying to clean this up? There is so much of oil in all kinds of places, and it won’t dissapear on its own.
What do you think the tropical storm will do to the oil spill?
This is bad especially when Obama is in the process of trying to get offshore drilling approved.
